ADS Practical Skills Course

Registration for the ADS Practical Skills Course 2024

The Australian Diabetes Society is running its annual Practical Skills Course for First Year Trainees in Adult Endocrinology over two days with the first day held on Saturday 17th February 2024 from 8.00am to 6.15pm (AEDT) at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Melbourne. The second day will be held as an online virtual event on Saturday 15th June 2024 from 9.30am to 5.15pm (AEST).

The two-day course will focus on the hands-on practical skills required to effectively care for people with diabetes in inpatient and ambulatory clinical settings. It will be run by senior endocrinologists and other diabetes health professionals.

The program will consist of 1-hour lecture sessions and 1.25-2hours small group workshops on topics including:

1. Discussing key landmark trials in CVRM
2. Prescribing medications for type 2 diabetes
3. Measuring glucose levels
4. Insulin and other injectable therapies
5. Managing Inpatient glycaemia, including peri-operative management
6. Managing the diabetic foot (including ulcer management and footwear)
7. Programming insulin pumps (with hands-on experience)
8. Diabetes technology downloads (insulin pump/CGM)
9. Case Studies in Type 1 Diabetes & Type 2 Diabetes
10. Diabetes eye examination & retinopathy

Supervisors are encouraged to advise incoming first year trainees of this course.

Registration Fee: $99 (inc $9GST) for both days. Full payment is required at time of completing the online registration. Please note, no refunds will be issued if cancelled after 12th February 2024.

Please note the following registration conditions:

  • Registration to the course is only open for First Year Advanced Trainees in Adult Endocrinology 
  • Trainees must be undertaken the RACP Physicians Training Program in 2024
  • It is important to note that trainees are required to attend both days to receive their certificate of attendance
  • Early registration is recommended as places are strictly limited
  • Registration closes on Monday 22nd January 2024

2022 ADS Practical Skills Course; Day 1

The Australian Diabetes Society is running its annual Practical Skills Course for First Year Trainees in Adult Endocrinology over two days with the first day held on Saturday 14th May 2022 from 9.30am to 5.30pm (AEST). The course will be held as an online virtual event. The course will focus on the hands-on practical skills required to effectively care for people with diabetes in inpatient and ambulatory clinical settings. It will be run by senior endocrinologists, senior advanced trainees and other diabetes health professionals.

 

There will be two 1-hour lecture sessions including three 1.25-1.5 hour small group workshops:

1) Prescribing medications for type 2 diabetes

2) Monitoring glucose levels

3) Inpatient glycaemia, including peri-operative management

4) Managing the diabetic foot (including ulcer management and footwear)

5) Programming insulin pumps (with hands-on experience)

Supervisors are encouraged to advise incoming first year trainees of this course.
