SUMMARY:ADS Practical Skills Course 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Australian Diabetes Society is running its annual Practical Skills Course for First Year Trainees in Adult Endocrinology over two days with the first day held on Saturday 21st February 2026 from 8.00am to 6.15pm (AEDT) at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Melbourne. The second day will be held as an online virtual event on Saturday 23rd May 2026 from 9.30am to 5.15pm (AEST). \nThe two-day course will focus on the hands-on practical skills required to effectively care for people with diabetes in inpatient and ambulatory clinical settings. It will be run by senior endocrinologists and other diabetes health professionals. \nThe program will consist of lecture sessions and small group workshops on topics including:\n1. Key landmark trials in CVRM\n2. Prescribing medications for type 2 diabetes\n3. Measuring glucose levels\n4. Insulin and other injectable therapies\n5. Managing Inpatient glycaemia\, including peri-operative management\n6. Managing the diabetic foot (including ulcer management and footwear)\n7. Programming insulin pumps (with hands-on experience)\n8. Diabetes technology downloads (insulin pump/CGM)\n9. Case Studies in Type 1 Diabetes & Type 2 Diabetes\n10. Diabetes eye examination & retinopathy \nSupervisors are encouraged to advise incoming first year trainees of this course. \nRegistration Fee: $176 (inc $16 GST) for both days. Full payment is required at time of completing the online registration.
