SUMMARY:ADS Practical Skills Course 2023
DESCRIPTION:ADS Practical Skills Course 2023\nThe Australian Diabetes Society is running its annual Practical Skills Course for First Year Trainees in Adult Endocrinology over two days with the first day held on Saturday 18th February 2023 from 8.15am to 5.30pm (AEDT) at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Melbourne. The second day will be held as an online virtual event on Saturday 3rd June 2023 from 9.30am to 5.15pm (AEST). \nThe two-day course will focus on the hands-on practical skills required to effectively care for people with diabetes in inpatient and ambulatory clinical settings. It will be run by senior endocrinologists\, senior advanced trainees and other diabetes health professionals. \nThe program will consist of 1-hour lecture sessions and 1.25-1.5hour small group workshops on topics including: \n\nPrescribing medications for type 2 diabetes\nMonitoring glucose levels\nInpatient glycaemia\, including peri-operative management\nManaging the diabetic foot (including ulcer management and footwear)\nProgramming insulin pumps (with hands-on experience)\nDiabetes technology downloads (insulin pump/CGM)\nCase Studies in Type 1 Diabetes & Type 2 Diabetes\nDiabetes eye examination & retinopathy\n\nSupervisors are encouraged to advise incoming first year trainees of this course. \nRegistration Fee: $99 (inc $9GST) for both days. Full payment is required at time of completing the online registration. SUMMARY:Insulin Pump & CGM Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Following the success of the ADS Insulin Pump & CGM Workshop held in June this year\, the Australian Diabetes Society is proud to host its second workshop in 2018 which will be held on Saturday 10 & Sunday 11 November 2018 in Melbourne at the Pan Pacific Hotel. \nThe workshop is primarily for medical practitioners\, especially endocrinologists and general physicians\, who work clinically with people who have type 1 diabetes. The aim of the workshop is to provide structured practical training about insulin pumps and other technologies used in diabetes self-management. This workshop contains new content to reflect the recent developments in insulin pump therapy and CGM. Topics to be covered include new insulin pumps\, continuous glucose monitoring\, carbohydrate counting\, exercise and pumps\, advanced problem solving and closed loop technologies. \nLimited places are available for clinicians who have previously attended the workshop. SUMMARY:Training Day:  Practical Diabetes Management for General Practitioners
DESCRIPTION:The Australian Diabetes Society as undertaken a commitment to provide ongoing education in diabetes management for general practitioners to enable them to provide better evidence based care for people with diabetes. The ADS will be conducting a series of day seminars and workshops for general practitioners. The focus of these sessions will be on providing GPs with information and skills to facilitate their day to day care of people with diabetes. The program will draw upon the key issues identified through our consultation with general practitioners.  The seminars will be conducted by prominent local diabetologists\, with an additional goal being to build relationships between GPs and their local diabetes services. \nThe 2015 ADS GP Training Day will be advised in due course. \nSome of the topics covered include: \n\nHbA1c and diagnosis of diabetes\, diabetes services in Western Sydney\nGP resources\, toolbox and Health pathways\nOral agents and new injectables\nDiabetes Complication / Cardiovascular Risk\nAnd others!\n\nThe formal presentations will be followed by workshops on: \n\nDiabetes stabilisations and insulin management\nPractical aspects of diabetic foot disease management\n\nThere will be interactive workshops to improve your diabetes management skills. \nAccreditation: \nIt is anticipated that the ADS GP Training Days will carry out 40 Category 1 QI&CPD points accreditation with the RACGP.
